Description of Camp:
Where there are horses, we are bound to find doggies! Do you have a dog-crazy (and horse-crazy) kiddo who would love to learn how to better care for their furry friend? Our hands-on dog safety and first aid camp for kids has all the horse camp activities plus teaches safety around dogs, dog body language, basic food, water, exercise and grooming needs for dogs, how to recognize when a dog isn't feeling well, how to bandage a paw, head and leg, and what to have in their first aid kit. Each Camper receives a booklet with puzzles and coloring pages, as well as a recipe for homemade doggy chicken and rice biscuits, and certificate of completion. Camp week includes horse camp too, with trail riding, hiking, crafts, horse-play, art, relays, water games, and Yes! Even Barn Chores! Every moment is a learning opportunity and though the camp has planned activities, we'll be teaching in a dynamic environment where the learning is organic because the learning takes place through discovery and play! We have day-camp visitors who will join us during the week, allowing our Happy Campers to change their role from students to teachers, experiencing what it is like to show others what they have just learned in an environment where helping others is interactive and fun to do!
Each day will include interaction with the horses to include feeding, riding, tacking, groundwork, saddle work, free play; nature related lessons regarding health, nutrition, and care of horses; arts and crafts that are theme related to the camp; games to include relays, water play, board games, and field play; round pen time to include introductions and icebreakers, announcements, group interactions, ending accolades, snack time and meal times.
Though there will be some riding, this is not a horse-back riding camp, so the focus is not about riding. No riding experience is necessary as all riding experiences will be accompanied by one-on-one helpers.
*All Dog Helpers will receive an "I Can Help" Booklet and Certificate of Completion to take home.
**Please note adult supervision will be limited after camp ends, so please arrive a few minutes before class is over to pick up your happy Helper! Cost will be $1.00 per minute after 3:40 pm.
